It’s time again for Burncourt Community Council’s Annual Summer Festival. Proceedings have already started with a Table Quiz last Friday night in Butler’s Bar. Thanks to all who made the effort to take part on the night, the general consensus being that it was fun night out. Congratulations to the winners Kitty Butler, Richard Butler, Noreen Butler and John Kearney who not only received first prize but also were the first recipients of the Denny Lonregan Perpetual Shield. This shield has been put forward by the Community Council in honour of the memory of the late Denny Lonregan who won many a quiz in Burncourt. The runners up were Mike Fox, Maura Fox, Pat Fox and Betty Frazer. The winner of the first prize of a hamper in the raffle was Ann Loughlin.
At the time of going to press, the Card Game on Tuesday night and the Poker Classic on Wednesday night will also have taken place.
Thursday night, July 14, sees the first round of the now famous “Battle of the Parish”. Last weekend was definitely a “Get to know your neighbour “ one with many a backyard in the area a hive of activity with welders, hammers and paintbrushes putting the Box Cars together for the Box Car Relay Derby which will start at 8pm in Burncourt village.
Tickets are selling well for Friday night’s “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” with a 7.30pm start in the Community Hall. The catering crew is in readiness and the local Drama Group is feverishly rehearsing. There will be a guest appearance from comedian Derek Ryan and there are some very “important visitors” arriving in Burncourt. A night of fun and laughter not to be missed. Dinner and show E20.
On Saturday, July 16, why not come along and take part in the Car Treasure Hunt. With a car of four for E20, this should prove to be a good family evening. Starting time is 4.30pm in Burncourt village.
When you return there will be plenty of entertainment with a Beat on the Street with “Force 10” and a barbecue from 8pm to10pm.
Sunday, July 17, is the annual Gala Day, also a great community and family day. There will be plenty activities for the children with Konor the Magician/Clown ,football matches for the U8s and U10s, children’s races, novelty races, face painting, bouncing castle and obstacle course, children’s play area , scarecrow competition. There will be the usual Bric-A- Brac stall, Teas and Cakes, Barbecue and the final of the “Battle of the Parish”. Also this year there will be a Display of local enterprises. All children’s activities are free. Admission for adults is E5. We hope to see you all there.

We played a challenge against Ballysaggart on Saturday night last in Clogheen in preparation for the South Quarter Final V Ballyneale. The game proved a very useful work out for both teams and we would like to thank Ballysaggart for the match.
Note we will play Ballyneale in Clonmel on Friday, July 15 at 7.30pm.
We have drawn Mullinahone in the South Semi Final of the Intermediate Football Championship. This game is fixed for July 30.
We played 2 matches during the past week in Minor Hurling resulting in wins over Ballylooby and Rockwell Rovers. We are due to play Clerihan and Davins the week.
