BRIAN BORUS FOOTBALL Last Wednesday night we unfortunately bowed out of the u12 B Championship with a defeat to Lattin Cullen in the County Final. The girls were very disappointed but should be proud of how much they’ve improved throughout the year. We started training in March and the girls have come a long way since then, Improving under the guidance of mentors Carmel Condon, Mary Murphy and Kevin Ryan. We first had to play group games, these game were to categorize us in to A or B division. In the group stages we had mixed results losing to both Cahir and Mullinahone who the joined the A division. Losing wasn’t all bad as these tough games stood to us as we went on to draw with Moyle Rovers in a very exciting match and we beat Fethard which put us into a B County Semi Final. We played Templemore at home in Ballylooby in the County Semi Final, this was a well fought battle both teams showing they wanted a place in the County Final. After a great game of football our girls emerged victorious. It was a huge team effort but credit must go to Makeala Rossiter who pulled off tremendous saves in goal, Linda Murphy who showed great determination through out the game, Caoimhe Ryan for her penetrating runs from midfield, and Mary Kenneally for her solid performance at full back. We were only leading by a point up until the last minute when an Emma White pass landed in the hands of Ciara Morrissey who struck the back of the net. Victory was secured but they’d have to go out and do it all again in the County Final which took place last Wednesday in Bansha against Lattin Cullen. The girls were very nervous but after some words of wisdom from their captain Kayleigh O’ Brien the girls set off to do battle again. An early goal for Lattin threw us a little, but the girls kept going. Lattin seemed to be doing all the scoring in the first half until Caoimhe Kenneally was fouled in the square a penalty was awarded which Caoimhe Ryan struck beautifully to the bottom left hand corner of the Lattin goal. The score-line at half time was 4-1 to 1-00 a tragic start for the girls, however in the start of the second half the girls appeared a much better team after some management changes. Jane Hyland adapted well to her new position at full back. Roisin Murray, Lauren O’Brien and Helen Burke kept the pressure on in defence. Nadia Keating even though being one of our younger players really stood up to the task she was displaying a man of the match performance and was cleaning up in the half back line and proving very hard to get past. Our forever energetic wing forwards Roisin Condon and Shannon Morrissey made great runs and laid off great passes to centre forward Linda Murphy who put on a display of scores including a well taken goal. Mary Kenneally linked up well with Makeala Rossiter for kick outs throughout the second half and fresh legs from our substitute Chloe Enright helped out Emma White and Ciara Morrissey in the full forward line. Brian Borus only conceded a single point in the second half. It was just a pity nerves got to them on this big occasion and after the first half the girls were only ever playing catch up. Final score 4-2 to 2-1. Hard luck to the girls and well done for coming so far and never giving up! Team: Makeala Rossiter, Helen Burke, Mary Kenneally, Lauren O’Brien, Roisin Murray, Kayleigh O’ Brien, Nadia Keating, Jane Hyland, Caoimhe Ryan, Roisin Condon, Linda Murphy, Shannon Morrissey, Caoimhe Kenneally, Emma White, Ciara Morrissey, Chloe Enright, Roisin Flannery, Allanna English, Hannah Berry, Rebecca Burke, Niamh Lonergan Shauna Maher, Sarah Halley and Lorraine Burke.
