Environment, Community & Local Government Minister Phil Hogan has sanctioned €225,000 funding to Cashel Town Council to replace the public lights on the town Friar Street with new decorative street lights and underground cabling.

The Minister has sanctioned South Tipperary Development Company to approve the grant to the Council under the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.

He said the project will cost €300,000 overall.

“The proposed works will significantly upgrade the appearance of the street, which is an important access point to the town, and improve the vista of the Rock of Cashel as visitors drive down the street.

“I know this development will enhance the economic and social attractiveness of Cashel and support Cashel’s application for UNESCO World Heritage status,” the Minister added.
