The inclement weather conditions on Saturday morning May 21 last did not dampen the spirits of the children from Newcastle and Newtown (Ballymacarbry) Schools who made their First Holy Communion in St. Lawrence Church, Fourmilewater.

The communicants were accompanied by their parents, family members and teachers at the 11am mass, celebrated by Rev. Fr. Desmond P.P. who welcomed the children and the congregation to the very special mass. He made the mass very meaningful and memorable for the children and all present appreciated his efforts in making the day most enjoyable for the young people. Compliments to the teachers from both schools, the priest and parents who had the children so well prepared for this the happiest day in their young lives. Congratulations also to the choir and musicians, their singing and music was a joy to listen too. The Newcastle children who made their First Communion on the day were: Ciaran O’Loughlin, Ryan O’Brien, Jack Fitzpatrick, Conor Butler, Dylan O’Connell, Mary O’Keeffe, Yvonne Clancy, Kayleigh Condon, Grace O’Flynn, Alice Ryan, Hollie Burke and Jade Smith.
