The Poulmucka Road Race Series took place last Friday night in glorious conditions.

Both the 8km and the 5km races for the meet and train athletes were a great success with more than 200 athletes competing on the night.

The star attraction was former World Cross Country Champion Catherina McKiernan, who received a marvellous reception from all present.

She responded with a great after-race talk.

She also responded on the roads as she showed some of her former class when running smoothly to an effortless win in the 5km race.

The Meet and Train 5km race involved each athlete predicting their finishing time and then running the race without a watch. It was a great event.

The winners were the athletes closest to their predicted time.

In the 5km race, the winner closest to their predicted time was Joan Guidera, who predicted 27minutes and ran 27 minutes 4 seconds; 2nd was Mary O’Gorman, who predicted 25 minutes and ran 24 minutes, 53 seconds while 3rd place went to Anne McGarry, who predicted 30 minutes and ran 29 mins 50 secs.

Winners of the 8km race were Declan Doherty of Thurles Crokes.

Declan won a great race in 27 minutes and 43 seconds and second was David Walters of Carrick-on-Suir 3 seconds, who was adrift. Tommy Falconer of Carrick on Suir was 3rd with a time of 27 minutes, 59 seconds.

Siobhain O’Doherty of Borrisokane was 4th overall in 28 minutes, 4 seconds and was a convincing winner of the Ladies Race.

The organisers thank everyone who helped to make the night such a great success.
