The annual Clonmel Healthy Heart Walk will take place on Wednesday, June 1 at 7.30pm. The aim of the walk is to raise funds for local charities in parallel to raising awareness amongst the local community of the importance of exercise in contributing towards good cardiac health.
This year’s walk is in aid of C.A.R.E. – Cancer Support Centre, Clonmel. The CARE Centre aims to provide emotional support and practical help to people who have or have had cancer, to their families and also to their friends in South Tipperary. All services are provided free of charge and provided in the strictest of confidence.
The Cancer Support Centre is presently looking at a healing garden that will provide a place of relaxation and tranquillity for those living with cancer, and with your help this hope can become a reality. All you have to do is turn up on the night and support this very worthy cause.
This is the fourth year of the Healthy Heart Walk and over €50,000 has been raised so far for local charities. This success is due to the generosity of the local community, to the fact that 100% of the money collected is given directly to the charity and also to the fact that a great social night is guaranteed.
Due to the kind sponsorship of Abbott Vascular, local clubs will also have a chance to avail of some money by encouraging all their members to turn out on the night in their club colours. €500 will be presented to the club with the most jerseys, and €300 to the runners up. All local clubs have been sent a letter outlining this, but if for some reason your club has not received the information please ring 086 323 79 66 for further details.
The route is a 5km circuit around Marlfield Lake commencing and finishing at the Clonmel Park Hotel. Due to popular demand the treasure hunt will also be organised again this year for the younger participants with loads of prizes to be won.
Walking is an excellent and easy activity and a great form of exercise for all age groups. Sponsorship cards are available at Marian’s Bookshop in O’Connell Street so why don’t you drop in, get a card and put on a comfortable pair of shoes and join in this great community walk.
