Recent Death-It is with feeling of deep regret we record the passing of Mr Geoffrey (Frey) Hackett, Kilnacarraga, Newcastle, which sad event occurred at his residence on Thursday 3rd May, surrounded by his loving family. In his seventies Frey was a hard working industrious farmer with many farming interests. He was a quiet and unassuming Christian gentleman, who had many fine and charitable qualities, coupled with a genial, jovial, friendly disposition which gained him the highest esteem by many. He was also a great family man whose whole life revolved around his wife and children. He loved the outdoor life, and his favourite pastimes (when work allowed) were hillwalking, angling, and Vintage club and Gun club activities. A lifelong and dedicated member of the Pioneer Movement, he was a great supporter of Pioneer Activities. He will be sorely missed by all. On Saturday morning his remains were removed from his home for St Mary`s Church, where many organisations had formed a guard of honour. To receive and bless the remains was Rev Fr Gareth Desmond P.P who celebrated the requiem mass assisted by Rev Fr Michael English P.P, a friend and neighbour of the family. Following the final prayers this gentle soul was laid to rest in adjoining cemetery, in the presence of an extremely high concourse of mourners. To his wife Betty, sons, daughters and their families, sister, brother in law, sisters in law we send our deepest sympathy.
