On Sunday, February 3, Peggy Wallace succumbed to a long and debilitating illness at the Regional Hospital, Limerick. Peggy had battled courageously for life for a long period and with her immediate family so far from home, she was lucky to fall back on her brothers Tom and Michael and their families during her frequent and tiring visits back and forth from Limerick for necessary hospital treatment. Peggy Wallace grew up in Ardmayle and her education was received at Ardmayle and Cashel schools. On completion of her education, Peggy went to work at Kennedy’s Pharmacy, Cashel until her marriage to Michael Spillane, Thurles. All her married life, she lived in Thurles, where she single handed reared a family of two sons and a daughter. Sadly, her husband Michael died in 1980 unexpectedly, when her youngest son Noel was not yet two years old, but she courageously faced the future with a strong faith. Shortly after her husband’s death, her widowed mother Lily went to live with her and, no doubt, they were a constant help to each other. On Tuesday evening, her remains were removed from Egan’s Funeral Home to Bohernanave Church, Thurles, and next day, she was laid to rest in St. Patrick’s cemetery after office and Requiem Mass. We express our deepest sympathy to her sons Brian and Noel, daughter Majella, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, ten grandchildren, brothers Tom and Michael, sisters-in-law Margaret and Kay, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.

On Friday, February 8, the death took place of Pat O’Dwyer, Dillion Street, Clonmel. The older generation of Dualla and Ardmayle may remember Pat who received his early education in Dualla and Ardmayle schools way back in the 1930s and 40s. Pat’s mother, the late Mrs. Bridget O’Dwyer, taught alternately in both Ardmayle and Dualla in that time. Around 1950, the family left the area and went to live in Clonmel. He is survived by his brothers Michael and Fr. Jim, and by his sisters Mary O’Farrell and Nuala Leamy. We express sympathy to Nuala, to her husband John Leamy and to the other members of the Leamy and O’Dwyer families.

We extend our sympathy to Kevin Leamy and the extended Leamy family, Dualla and Cashel on the recent death of Michael Leamy. Also, to Tess Maher, St. Joseph’s Avenue and Denis McGrath, Ardmayle on the death of their brother Robert McGrath, Dualla Road, Cashel.
