The second annual Hockey Masters Interpros were held last weekend in Three Rock Rovers hockey grounds in Rathfarnham, Dublin. Masters hockey (for players aged 40 or over) continues to grow and the tournament saw 12 men’s teams and 6 ladies teams taking part in a schedule of 30 competitive matches.

On the ladies side the numbers competing more than doubled, with Connacht and Munster entering teams for the first time. Despite a losing start in score rather than performance, Munster won their next three matches but disappointingly lost out on pole position to Leinster on goals conceded. There were some great team and individual displays of talent from Clonmel Hockey Club members Dawn Grace, Ger Boland and Jacqui Freyne, who netted three goals over the two days. With the club going from strength to strength no doubt we’ll continue to see more representation at the interprovincial level, masters or otherwise. Congratulations to all on a yet another successful season.
