Cashel Tidy Towns Committee were delighted with the level of support shown by the very large turnout at a presentation event held to publicise the awareness of their new 3 Year Plan.

The event, which was held in Spafield Family Resource Centre in Cashel on Thursday last, was attended by representatives of approximately 40 local and regional organisations drawn from civic, cultural, educational, sporting and commercial interests in the area. The committee wish to thank both Sr. Mary and Mrs Mary Myers for their generous support in facilitating the proceedings and providing nourishment on the night.

Chairman Paddy Downey welcomed attendees and then handed over to Mr Frank Donaldson, who drafted the plan following his own survey of Cashel and analysis of the Adjudicator’s Report.

Frank took us through the main elements and provided very interesting comments by way of comparison of our results with those of the winners of the 2010 National Tidy Towns Competition, Tallanstown, Co. Louth. He indicated where we should focus our efforts to achieve maximum results both this year and indeed over the next three years.

This year Cashel is Host Town for the European Charter Group, which will see representatives from similar towns in every country in the EU visit in from 30th June to 4th July 2011. The imminent arrival of so many visitors from abroad provides an incentive – if ever one was needed ! - for us to redouble our efforts to improve the appearance of Cashel and also our marks in each of the different categories in the National Tidy Towns Competition.

If you are interested in seeing how we have performed over recent years please let us know and we will be happy to take you through adjudicator’s marks, comments and recommendations.

We are always on the lookout for volunteers to help – not just in the physical work involved, but also in using the skills and knowledge to improve other aspects of Cashel’s performance.

If you have some time free each week and would like to assist with the physical work, or if you feel you have some particular skill or expertise that could complement our activities, then please pick up the phone and call Paddy Downey on 087 2460308 or Paul Monks on 086 2359886 and we can discuss how best to engage your talents – don’t be afraid to come forward!
