The sound of sleigh bells will echo around the streets of Clonmel with the arrival of Santa Claus on Saturday, December 7.

Following the arrival of Mr. Claus the Christmas lights will be switched on in the town by Ireland and Munster rugby legend Denis Leamy, the Cashel man who is now coaching at the Clonmel club.

The event will kick off at the Main Guard with a performance by Banna Chluain Meala, who will get spectators into the spirit of the season. Children will be brimming with excitement as they await the arrival of the man in red at 2.30pm.

There is one way to ensure you have a VIP pass to see Santa Claus first, as the Clonmel Retail Forum are running a competition to win one of 10 golden tickets.

The winners of the golden tickets will not only be among the first to meet Santa, they will also win a voucher to the value of €50 for various Clonmel stores. The competition will be run similarly to the original golden ticket competition in the film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The tickets will be hidden in shops in the town. When they have been hidden an announcement will be made on the Clonmel.ie facebook page and the hunt can begin.

You must make a purchase in Clonmel to win a ticket and be sure to ask in every shop you visit.
