Vintage Tractor Run in aid of Cappawhite Day-Care Centre for the elderly, will be held on April 17, at 1.30 p.m. The date is a little away yet, just to give you time to rub up your tractors.

On Wednesday, March 23, 10 girls from third, fourth, fifth and sixth class went to a mini sevens blitz in Clonulty, organised by the class teacher, Mrs. Jacinta Coman. The teams in the blitz were Cappawhite, Thomastown and Clonoulty. Congratulations to Sinead Buckley for her tremendous effort and teamwork in both matches led by a fantastic Captain Lauren Hayes. Well done also to goalie Aoife Walshe.

In the first match Sinead scored an excellent goal lobbing it into the right hand corner of the net. After such great effort put into the match against Thomastown they lost the match. In the second match Sinead also scored another two tremendous goals vs. Clonoulty but then again the match was lost. Well Done Sinead. By Sarah Pollack.

Match against Thomastown: This was the first match in the girls’ football mini sevens. The team was a class goal keeper Aoife Walsh, backs Sarah Pollock and Shauna Ryan. the midfielders were Lauren Hayes and Aisling Buckley and the forwards were Sinead Buckley and Margaret Collins O’Dwyer, with substitutes Isabella Allen, Nicole McAndrew and Ann O’Donnell.

Three minutes into the game Lauren Hayes scored a point then Thomastown scored a goal.

Margaret Collins O’Dwyer came off and Isabella Allen was put on. The referee threw up the ball and Cappawhite caught it but Thomastown got it off us and they scored a point. Thomastown won but we played well and we were proud of ourselves. Well done to the Cappawhite team. By Lauren Hayes.

Cappawhite Vs Clonoulty: Cappawhite versus Clonoulty at the Clonoulty pitch. Cappawhite, led by Captain Lauren Hayes, were behind by two points at the end of the first half. Clonoulty 1 goal. Cappawhite 1 point. Not long into the second half Sinead Buckley scored a class goal. Cappawhite were now in the lead by 1 point. Later on in the match Clonoulty scored a point, making it level.

After a few minutes Margaret Collins O’Dwyer scored a great goal off the ground giving Cappawhite the lead, until Clonoulty got another point. Followed by yet another great goal by Sinead Buckley. Clonoulty came back scoring 5 points and a goal, a disappointing end for Cappawhite in a great sporting match. Final score Clonoulty 4 g 7 pts. Cappawhite 3g 2 pts. By Sinead Buckley.


U10 Blitz: Cappawhite U10 hurlers participated in the second of the U10 ‘Go Games’ blitz’s in Seán Treacy Park on Saturday morning. Go Games are 9 aside games played in a smaller area designed to improve the basic skills of those who participate.

Taking part along with Cappawhite were Golden, Rosegreen and hosts Arravale Rovers. Cappawhite played all three teams. Well done to all and thanks to Arravale for the refreshments afterwards.
