CARMELITE LOURDES GROUP
The Mitchelstown Carmelite Lourdes group will celebrate its annual Mass on Saturday, September 3, at 7.30pm at Mitchelstown Parish Church. This will include the lighting of the parish candle that the group will bring to Lourdes when they travel from September 27 to October 2.
BALLYGIBLIN HURLERS LOSE OUT
Ballygiblin Junior A hurlers lost out to Charleville on Saturday evening at Castletownroche in the Premier JHC quarter final. The sides were level 0-3 each after 10 minutes. Charleville pulled away and led 1-12 to 0-5 at half time. Ballygiblin improved on the resumption and by the 50th minute were just 5 points adrift 1-16 to 1-11. The winners finished well with 5 more points to emerge victorious by a 10 point margin 1-21 to 1-11.
MITCHELSTOWN UNDER 16s WIN
Mitchelstown Under 16 A footballers had an easy win over Clyda Rovers in the
Norther Region league at Mitchelstown on Thursday evening. The home side dominated all through with their midfielders and half forwards very effective and they led 1-12 to 0-3 at half time. The second half was a little closer but there was no denying the winners their comfortable win. Final score 1- 16 to 0- 9.
THE LATE ELLEN DOWNEY
The death occurred on August 12 at Cork University Hospital of Ellen (Philomena) Downey Kilclooney Knockanevin. There was a large attendance at the removal from Hannon’s Funeral Home Kildorrery to Shraherla Church on
Sunday and also at the Requiem Mass and burial on Monday. Interment took place to Mitchelstown Church Cemetery. To her sons John, Denis, daughter Mary (Williams) Eileen (Moloney) Margaret (Conway) sister Mary (Young) extended family, relatives and friends we tender our sincere sympathy.
THE LATE CHRIS O’ GRADY
The death occurred on August 12 peacefully at her home Mandeville Park Mitchelstown of Chris O’Grady (Nee English). The late Chris was predeceased by her late husband Jimmy. She was well known locally being a very religious lady. Her popularity was borne out in the large attendance at the removal on Saturday evening from O’Brien’s Funeral Home to the Parish Church and also at the Requiem Mass and burial on Sunday. Interment took place to the adjoining cemetery. To her daughters Gabriella, Geraldine, Cora and Edel, brothers in law, sisters in law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends we tender our sincere sympathy.
LIONS CLUB FAMILY DAY
Mitchelstown Lions Club will their annual Family Day this Saturday August 27 in New Square. It starts at 2pm and will continue until 5pm. All the usual popular attractions will be there. The greasy pole, always a great favourite with the young, face painting, bouncing castles, vintage cars, fire brigade, musical entertainment by the ‘Rockers’ of CBS Primary School and local musicians.
There will also be a bric a brac stall and a book stall. There will be bingo with T.O. as well as a barbecue. The highlight of the afternoon will be the go kart racing.
Mitchelstown Concern Group will hold a monster Bingo in the Town Hall this Monday night 8.30pm All proceeds raised on the night will be sent to Concern to help the victims of Somalia. All bingo players are urged to come along on the night for this very worthy cause. People who do not play bingo are also asked to come along and support on the night. Well known T.O. O’ Flynn Labbamallogga will call the numbers. It promises to be a great occasion and all support will be greatly appreciated.
