Ballylooby Duhill



The Parish Vintage Day, this Sunday August 28 ( new venue this year) by kind permission of John-Joe and Eileen Myles and the field is adjacent to the Village of Ballylooby. A great fun family day out, the threshing mill, steam engine, vintage tractors, cars and bikes, dog show butter making, sports bouncing castles and numerous side shows. Fun filled day for all the family to enjoy so take note of the date and come along to support this annual parish event.


Gemma O’Gorman, Ballyboy is going to the Niall Mellon Township in November. A fundraiser table quiz will be held in Nedeen’s Bar on Friday night at 9.30pm. Your support is appreciated.


The Liam Keating Fundraiser for Cancer Research raised €5,315. The Keating and Littleton families would like to thank everyone who helped and contributed to this cause. A special word of thanks to: John and Carmel Dolan Super-Valu Cahir for their help and assistance.


Under 10 Player of the week: Cathal O’Gorman. Under 12: Hard luck to the under 12 hurlers who were defeated in the semi finals by a strong Ballyneale team. Well done and thanks to all your efforts over the year.

Minor: Well done to the minors who won the south minor hurling championship last Saturday night against a very talented Carrick Davins team. Well done to all.

Card results for Monday, August 15. 1st prize with eleven games: Paudie Hartigan and Timmy Fitzgerald. Two couples shared 2nd prize with ten games each: James Murphy and Mary Whelan, Tom Long and Kitty Tobin. Lucky Table: Teresa Prendergast and Leish Shine. Cards continue every Monday night in Ballylooby community Hall at 8.30pm followed by light refreshments.

Ballylooby/Castlegrace GAA Development Lotto. On Monday, August 15, the Jackpot of €1,600 was won by Marie Murphy, Raheen, Cahir. Winning No’s 4, 19, 21, 23. Next weeks jackpot will begin at €1,000. Draw takes place every Monday night at 9.30pm in the clubhouse


Duhill Gala Day will take place on Sunday, September 11.

Events will begin at 9.30am (after mass) with cake sale followed by Fun Cycle approx: 10k from Duhill Hall to Clogheen via Bohernagore Cross, and back to field at Castlegrace Cross Roads (by kind permission of Jim and Maureen Moloney). All ages welcome, Fancy Dress optional, prizes for first Lady/Gent Home, Boy/Girl and best costume.

Photography competition: two entries per person (include name and telephone number on back of photo) Prizes to be won and to enter contact Maggie Moloney, Castlegrace Tel: 086-3846839. Other events planned’ include children’s relays, GAA Blitzes, Over 40’s match, Novelty Competitions, Pony Rides, Dog Show, Face Painting, and Bouncy Castles.

Tug of War competition, Farmers Market and Craft Stalls and much more, a family day out not to be missed. Proceeds go towards the up-keep of hall and the senior citizens party. A meeting to discuss the forthcoming Gala Day will take place this Wednesday, August 24, in Duhill Hall at 8pm. All are welcome.

WEDDING Congratulations to Dan Barrett son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Barrett, Kilcommon, Cahir and Francis Fenton who were married in Duhill Church on Friday, August 19. We wish the young couple good health and happiness in the years ahead.



Our hurlers are doing very well so come along and support them next Sunday evening in Goatenbridge at 7 p.m. when they take on Clonmel Og in the knock out stages of the south championship, The boys have only suffered one defeat so far and that was to Kilsheelan/Kilcash in the very first game of the year. They, under the stewardship of Seamus Roche, Richie Morrissey and Co have been undefeated since then. A good game is in prospect so come along and support the lads.

On September 4 we take on old rivals Kilkenny in the Senior All Ireland Final and Ballylooby Castlegrace Gaa club is celebrating this in a dual fashion. There is a E100 prize available to the best decorated house in the parish for the Tipp game, get your flags and decorations up in the Tipp colours, Remember our boys are doing very well in the hurling and football and WE are the same colours as Tipp Blue and gold! Also are you good at predicting the score, well for E2 you can take your chance and be in with a chance to win two hundred and E50 so go on will it be Tipp or Kilkenny and by how much? Contact any member of the GAA club to buy a line. Remember if your not in you can’t win!


Great win for the Tipp minors in the All Ireland Semi-Final against Roscommon on Sunday last in Croke Park.

Even better that they that they achieved this win convincingly being reduced to 14 men at fourteen minutes of the second half and special congratulations to T J Ryan of Rockwell Rovers who is connected to Ballylooby through the O’Neil Family and also a special mention to Dylan Fitzelle who was heroic in Croke Park . All played their part a great team performance. The very best of luck in the final lads.
