ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE
There was a huge turnout for the annual St Patrick’s Day Parade in Mitchelstown, on March 17. Sincere thanks to the Festival of the Galtees committee for the hard work they put into organising the event. Also the Gardai and stewards who ensured the event passed of with the least disruption to passing traffic. Thanks to all who competed and to the many sponsors of the day.
Eddie Stones, a lay Catholic evangelist, and his wife and family have dedicated themselves to work for the strengthening and renewal of the Catholic faith in Ireland.
He has developed a centre of prayer in Clonfert with the approval and support of the local Bishop, Dr Kirby. This Saturday afternoon, March 24, Eddie will lead an afternoon of Prayer in the Parish Church, Mitchelstown, from 2pm to 5pm. There will be rosary, talk, mass and Eddie will lead special prayers for healing. There will be an opportunity of confession. Eddie strongly encourages people to be devoted to this sacrament. As this Lent moves on, this is a special opportunity of God’s Grace. A capacity attendance is expected.

Mitchelstown Macra are holding a ‘Cycle for Calum’ in aid of the Calum Geary Trust on Saturday, March 31. The route will start in Mitchelstown taking in a distance of approximately 50 kilometres including Fermoy, Ballyhooly, Glanworth, Kildorrery, and Mitchelstown. The Fatima presentation by Solvita and Thomas McCormack will take in the Parish Church on Thursday, March 29, at 8pm. The evening of film, short talks, prayer and music will emphasise the importance of the Fatima message for our times. All are welcome.
THE LATE FRANCIS SPILLANE
The death occurred on March 18, peacefully at Corpus Christi Nursing Home Mitchelstown, of Francis Spillane, 21 Woodlawn, Mitchelstown, and formerly of Ardrahan, Galbally. The late Francis was a deeply religious man was in his mid 50s and had been in poor health for many years, which he bore with great dignity. He was predeceased by his wife Marion. His popularity was borne out in the very large attendance at the rosary on Sunday night and also at the removal from O’Brien’s Funeral Home, Mitchelstown, on Monday night to the local Parish Church and at the Requiem Mass and burial on Tuesday. Interment took place to Brigown New Cemetery. To his daughter Linda, sons Steven and Sean, mother Nan, brothers Tom and John, sisters Nellie (Daly) and Anne (Lane) uncle Tommy, uncle in law Mikey brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends we tender our sincere sympathy
