Olympics: Clonmel Connections
Manager of the cycling team Martin Oâ€™Loughlin is from Carrick on Suir and is a teacher in the Presentation Secondary School, Clonmel. Jimmy Ryan, principal of St. Maryâ€™s C.B.S. Primary, who has a great interest in horse breeding, bred one of the horses competing in the Olympics. The name of the horse is â€˜Electric Cruiseâ€™ and was ridden by Joseph Murphy at the Equestrian Cross â€“ Country competition at the Olympics in London.
Our parish pilgrimage to Lourdes flies out on Tuesday next. The opening Mass of the pilgrimage will be in St. Maryâ€™s next Tuesday morning at 10a.m. St. Paulâ€™s Parish in Waterford will be joining St. Maryâ€™s this year. If anyone would like to send out any petitions to be placed in the grotto, please hand them in to any of the pilgrims who are travelling. It is important that no money is put into these petition envelopes. We wish all who are travelling a safe and rewarding pilgrimage.
The Sixth Annual Grandparentsâ€™ Pilgrimage
Saints Joachim and Anne, parents of Mary and grandparents of Jesus, are patrons of the Catholic Grandparents Association. The sixth annual Grandparents Pilgrimage to Knock takes place on Sunday, September 9. The Waterford and Lismore person on the National Committee is Bill Curtin, Waterford.
Knock Shrine - August 2012â€¨The national novena in honour of Our Lady of Knock takes place from August 14 to 22. â€¨3p.m. Concelebrated Mass in the Basilica, Novena Prayers, Eucharistic Blessing of the Sick, Procession of the Blessed Sacrament to Apparition Chapel.
8.30 p.m. Concelebrated Mass in the Basilica, Novena Prayers, Candlelight Procession to Apparition Chapel.
Those unable to attend the ceremonies at the Shrine may join in the Novena at home by reciting the Novena Prayers and the Rosary. Mass and Holy Communion in the local Church are also recommended.
Fr. Colm Oâ€™Brien Memorial Cycle 2012
Fr. Colmâ€™s Memorial Cycle will take place this year on Saturday, August 18. The cycle will start at Ss. Peter and Paulâ€™s Church, Clonmel at 11am, travel to St. Paulâ€™s Church, Lisduggan, from Clonmel to Tramore via St. Paulâ€™s, Lisduggan or alternatively you can cycle 7 miles from St. Paulâ€™s, Lisduggan to Tramore. We are most grateful for the generosity of so many parishioners who have donated â‚¬132,949 towards the renovation of our Church. Total cost of renovations â‚¬875,000. Wednesday, August 8, Saint Dominic, born 1170, died 1221. A Spaniard who founded the Order of Preachers (Domicans).
Saturday, August 11, Saint Clare, born at Assisi in 1193, died 1253. She followed Saint Francis in his life of poverty and was founder and ruler of the Poor Clares. She led an austere life, abounding in works of piety and charity.
New volunteers needed!
Clonmel Citizens Information Centre, Market Place, Clonmel, is now looking for new volunteers to help with giving out information on rights and entitlements to the public. IHCPT Lourdes Pilgrimage
Since 1972, IHCPT has been taking young people with special needs to Lourdes at Easter. Applications are welcome from young people with: A physical disability or illness (age nine to 30) â€“ A learning disability (aged 11 to 30) a serious illness up to age 11 accompanied by a parent or guardian â€“ Family Group. There are also places available for those who do not have a disability but whom The Trust believes would benefit from the experience of Lourdes.
