A former derelict warehouse transformed into a Zumba fitness studio above the Fairgreen store in Carrick-on-Suir has been officially opened by the town’s Mayor Cllr. Liam Walsh.

Breda Kirby, proprietor and qualified Zumba instructor, has set up “Step Up Studio”, which is already attracting many local people to join and dance to fitness.

Gathered for the official opening were Breda’s husband Jonathon Kirby, her family and many friends.

Fr Pat Gear blessed the studio and all present and Mayor of Carrick-on-Suir Liam Walsh cut the ribbon.

The Mayor praised Breda’s vision to turn the warehouse into an excellent service for the people of Carrick while establishing a business for herself, her husband and their young family.

The Mayor talked of Breda’s family’s strong links to sport with her father Patsy involved with the Davin GAA Club all his life and her brothers winning county and South medals, All-Ireland Handball medals and Special Olympics medals.

Breda runs a selection of Zumba classes from Monday to Friday catering for beginners to advanced level and children’s classes for 4 to 12 year olds.

She will also run yoga classes in the future and has a Garra Rufa Fish Spa and a Symphony Sunbed on her premises. The studio can be also hired out for private parties.
