OPENING OF SCHOOL
EXTENSION
Next Saturday, May 18, past, present and the parents of future pupils and all in the locality will gather for the official opening of Burncourt National School extension and to celebrate the lifetime of service and her retirement from teaching of Helen Russell.
The school will be open to everyone from 4pm onwards so that past pupils can recall old times and will also give all an opportunity to see the school facilities and the excellent new extension. The official opening by Pat O’ Callaghan and Helen Russell will take place at 7pm followed by a blessing by Fr. Pat Butler. Mass will follow at 7.30pm to celebrate Helen Russell’s career as a teacher in Burncourt National School and the evening will conclude with refreshments in Burncourt Community Hall.
SYMPATHY
There was a sense sadness at the news of the death last week of John Dick after a long but dignified battle with illness. A native of Charleville, John lived in Cullinaugh, Burncourt for several years. A familiar sight with his pony and trap, John was well known and highly regarded for his expertise as a dog trainer and at sheep trials. The large attendance from all corners of Ireland at his wake and funeral Mass bore testament to the esteem in which he was held. Condolences to his son Malcolm, daughter Sonya, brother Walter, his partner Teresa and her children Lisa and Christopher, the mother of John’s children Bernadette, his grandchildren and his relatives, neighbours and friends.
