Cahir senior footballers are out of the county football championship after an epic game with Arravale Rovers. The game finished level at full time but Cahir had too many injuries in extra time and could not keep up with a very fit and fast Arravale Rovers team.

Cahir had a player sent off in the first half for two yellow cards. Despite this, Cahir fought back well and were two points up with two minutes to go. Benny Hickey gave a classy performance and scored a brilliant goal. Great credit is due to all the players, manager John O’Connor, selectors Dan Costigan, Denny Whelan and trainer Shane Ronayne. They all worked tirelessly all season, but were not able to close out and win games they could have won. Team: Aaron Wall, Sean O’Connor, Ryan Hennessy (0-1), Ger Hally, Niall McKenna (0-1), Robbie Costigan, Dean Lonergan, Liam Casey (1-1), Eddie Kendrick, James McGrath, Paddy O’Flaherty (0-1), Mikey O’Connor (0-1), Johnny McMahon, Padraig Whelan (0-3), Benny Hickey (1-2). Subs Used: Shane Murphy (1-0), Aidan Casey, Liam Meehan, Ian Flannery

Our junior footballers also ended their campaign when they were beaten by a point by Clonmel Og in the South semi final. Another game we could and should have won, but it was not to be. Team: Evan O’Dwyer, John Sheehy, Paul Frazer, Noel O’Gorman, Sean Kiernan, Padraig Hyland, Brendan Donaghy, Michael Tarrant (0-1), Conor Casey (0-1), Gavin Berry, Mark Costigan (1-0), Ger O’Gorman, Cormac Looby (0-2), Steven Flannery (1-0), Paul Tuohy (0-5). Subs Used: Eoin Farrell (0-1), Willie Reidy, James English.

The ‘Draw The Joker’ took place in the Hill bar on Sunday evening. Richie Cagney’s name was pulled from the drum, but alas he did not draw the joker. Richie had to settle for €100. The €50 prizes were won by Graine McMahon and Larry Carey with the house prize going to Kevin Maguire. The chances of winning the joker increases each week as more and more cards are turned. We would like to reassure everybody that the cards and balls are checked by an independent witness each week before the draw and the draw itself is checked by the Bar owner or one of his staff. The money raised so far by the draw is being used to complete our field in Duneske. Next week the draw will be held in The Shamrock Lounge and the jackpot is €4,600.
