Carrick Business Association reports there was a big increase in retail business in the town last weekend arising from its Christmas Shopping Festival.
Most traders in the town offered special discounts and offers to shoppers during the weekend and the Town Council introduced free parking in their car parks on the Saturday - an initiative that will operate every Saturday up to Christmas.
A special Christmas market selling local produce and seasonal treats took place in the grounds of the Heritage Centre off Main Street. Jennifer Power from Ballyneale won £100 worth of Carrick Vouchers in a free competition run at the market.
In tandem with the shopping festival, COSBA and South Tipp Development Company ran an Employment Incentives Information Day inside the Heritage Centre on Friday providing information on the JobBridge and Jobsplus schemes to unemployed people and employers. Mayor of Carrick Cllr Kieran Bourke, who opened the event, congratulated the organisers for helping people on the Live Register maintain links with the labour market.
