Battles and Battalions - Michael Desmond will deliver a lecture on the Battles and Battalions of WW1 in the Muintir na Tire Hall Newcastle, on Monday next, April 2. Michael will look at the battles which the men from South Tipperary fought in, and the battalions they served with, paying particular attention to the men from our local villages. A lecture not to be missed! Admission is €E3 for adults and children are admitted free.


Newcastle Muintir –Na- Tire Community Council are organising a sponsored cycle in aid of the Lourdes fund, this year we are again sponsoring two parishioners.

The sponsored cycle will take place on Sunday, April. 22 We are seeking cyclists (adult only) who will participate and raise funds for this worthy cause. If you are willing to take a sponsorship card and cycle, or indeed take a sponsorship card and help those who are cycling to raise funds please contact Marian O’Dwyer on 087 1254882 or Joanie in O’Dwyer`s shop immediately. We are also seeking your help in stewarding the event on the day. If you are willing to help in any way please contact Marian or Joanie.


The Community Council would like to thank all those who contributed so generously to their recent church gate collection. The purpose of the collection was to raise funds for the installation of CCTV cameras, which have become essential for the protection of the community hall and grounds.

Our sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Mrs Phil McCarthy, Deora De, Newcastle, whose burial took place in the new cemetery Mollough last week.

Sympathy also to Eddie Prendergast, Clashganny, and other family members of Mr Arthur Prendergast, Old Bridge, Clonmel, who died recently.


Table Quiz- Newcastle GAA club held a very successful table quiz in the Glenview Lounge, Goatenbridge, on Friday last, March 23. The club would like to thank PJ Cullinan, who was an excellent quizmaster, Lee Cullinan and everyone else who helped, Joan Liam and staff of the Glenview Lounge, to those who sponsored raffle prizes and especially to all those who entered the quiz for their support.

Juvenile Notes- Friday last, March 23, was the first match in the Premier games in football for the under 12`s, and the opposition for this game was Clonmel Commercials. The Newcastle team put on a great performance and emerged victories by 2 points. Well done to all involved. The team was Dane O’Sullivan, Padraig O’Loughlin, Eoin O’Keeffe, Ryan McCullagh, Tommy Taylor, David Kelly, Shannon Taylor, Luke Condon, Tadgh Devaney, Aaron Heffernan, Jason O’Donnell, Janis Sturkina, Clodagh Kelly and Feidhlim Ryder.

Committee Meeting- Reminder of the next committee meeting which will be held on Wednesday night next, April 4, in the clubroom at 8pm. All committee members are requested to attend.

Membership-Club membership for the year is now due. The cost for the year is E40 for adults, E10 for OAP and students, and E5 for juveniles. There is also a family membership available, E80 for two adults and two juveniles (under16). Closing date for receipt of membership is March 31.

Scrap Metal- If anyone has any scrap metal that is not required, the GAA club is collecting it. To have the metal collected please contact Michael Keating at 087 6121351 or William Devaney at 086 2468432 as soon as possible to arrange collection.
