On Tuesday May 29 we were both proud and delighted to officially open our brand new and modern school library in Scoil Teampall Toinne. It took some very long months of preparations and fund raising but with the help of so many we are up and running and was worth the wait. We were very privileged on Tuesday to have the author of ‘Spirit of the Titanic’ Nicola Pierce, to open our library and later give a very indepth talk about her book and what inspired her to write it. The children of the school were very attentive during her talk and display of photos which Nicola brought along to show the children, The library is fully stocked with books for all different age groups. A lot of these books were donated by parents and we are very grateful to all, It took a lot of fundraising and we would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thanks to everyone who helped out in anyway, without you it wouldn’t have been possible. Each student now has their own library card to use whenever they want to take out a book. We would like to say a huge thank you to our sponsors Harvey Norman, Kilcoran Hotel, Setanta book club, Vision ID. Pat Russells shop, Hale Imports, Colours Paints Mitchelstown, Cashel flowersand O’Brien Press. Thanks also to Nicola Pierce for making the long journey from Drogheda on the day, we are very honoured, also to our hard working committee.
Our sponsored walk in Glengarra woods took place on May 21 and was a great success - each household had a sponsorship card and we would like to thank everyone who sponsored the children and supported us. It was a great turnout on the day and we were blessed with fine weather. Thanks to Tesco for providing treats for the children on their return. The overall amount raised was €2,456.53. There was a draw on the sponsorship cards and congratulations to the following winners - Laurence Maher, Deborah Fitzgerald and Mathew Kirby.
