Last weekend was busy in the parish as Liverpool dancers and musicians were on an exchange visit. The exchange visits between Sliabh gCua and The Irish centre in Liverpool commenced in 1977 and have been a strong tradition ever since. On Sunday mass was celebrated by Fr. Connie Kelleher PP in St.Mary’s church. There was a large contingent of musicians and dancers from Liverpool in attendance. Mass offerings were presented by girls in Irish dancing costumes, the choir sang beautiful songs and Tom Flynn sang a rendition of Sliabh Geal gCua na Feile. Fr Kelleher P.P. spoke about Alice Burke’s retirement from her job as sacristan after 50 years. He thanked Alice for her contribution to the church and also for her fund raising activities. The proceeds from Alice’s fundraising enabled the church to make many renovations. Fr Kelleher also took the opportunity to thank Alice’s late husband, Ned Burke and the Burke family, for their contribution. Alice and family would like to sincerely thank everybody.
