Ballyneale FC were defeated 5-1 by Rosegreen in the first round of Tipperary Cup at Ballydine on Sunday.
After playing Rosegreen a few weeks ago and performing reasonably well in that match, the team hoped for the same again if not better.
Ballyneale started well with plenty of possession in the first 20 minutes but failed to really test the Rosegreen keeper.
Rosegreen then scored against the run of play with a speculative shot from a distance.
However, Ballyneale replied well, scoring through David Norton. But this boost was short lived and Rosegreen scored soon after, leaving it 2-1 at the break.
The second half was more of a test for Ballyneale.
Rosegreen scored their third goal at 75 minutes. Ballyneale refused to throw in the towel with good football from Ritchie Tobin and Enda Fogatory forcing a penalty.
However, the keeper saved the spot kick. Rosegreen added further goals and the final score was 5-1.
Performing well for Ballyneale were Ger Crowley and Johnny Mc Grath. There is no match fixed at the moment for next Sunday.
Meanwhile, Ballyneale FC travelled to Cashel Town last week to play their premier team in the FAI Junior Cup.
This was always going to be a difficult tie and it proved to be the case. Everything went perfect for the home side and they were three goals up after 15 minutes.
Ballyneale then started to compete well for the remainder of the half and started the second competitively but Cashel’s movement and fitness began to take its toll. The final score was 9-0.
