CHRISTMAS IN BURNCOURT
The Christmas Concert, held on December 21, put all in good humour with the local drama group’s production of “Barney’s Bull.” As always the team of actors and their director Mary O’Brien had us all in stitches. Ciara and Lauren’s production - “The Hole in the Wall” was the work of two talented young ladies and the young dancers under the guidance of Michelle showed great promise. Well done to the national school junior pupils who had us all clapping for their seasonal songs which they sang with great gusto. All in all a great show. Burncourt Community Council would like to thank all who supported the show and who sponsored the raffle.
As always the community responded to the Christmas message with large attendances at both Christmas Eve and Christmas day masses. With Christmas trees and lanterns adorning the steps of the church which on entering saw the brasses shine, the Christmas floral arrangements at their festive best and the traditional crib taking pride of place. All of this could not be achieved without a lot of background work and commitment. Well done to all concerned. A big thank you to all who not only at Christmas but throughout the year make Burncourt Church a very welcoming place. Again our thanks to the altar servers, to Fr. Butler and Fr. Frawley, to Sr. Claire, John Tuohy and choir and indeed to Maureen Creed for all their work. A big thank you to Anthony and Kay Caplice for their generous donation of the Christmas trees for Burncourt Church. Much appreciated.
It was with deep sadness that the people of Burncourt and the locality heard of the death of Michael Carroll, Raheen, so shortly before Christmas. Michael, a stalwart of the community had courageously battled serious illness for the last few years. Prominent in the farming community, Michael was a knowledgeable man on farming and the environment, Michael made an enormous contribution to the locality as a founder member of Macra in the area and one of the initial members of Burncourt Community Council. It was a fitting tribute that past and present members of the Community Council formed a Guard of Honour as Michael’s remains were brought to Burncourt Church. Our heartfelt sympathy to Michael’s wife MaryAnn, his daughter Margaret, sons James, Anthony, Paul and Pat, grandchildren, son-in-law, daughters-in-law and all his relatives, neighbours and friends. May Michael’s soul rest in peace in the comfort of God’s heavenly kingdom.
