Cashel Community School has been in mourning this past week for Ciarán Flanagan, a fifth year student at the school, who died tragically at his home in Gaile.

The entire community of the school – management, staff, students and parents – extend profound sympathies to Ciarán’s parents Jim and Marie, to his sister Fiona and brothers John and James, his grandmother and the extended Flanagan family.

Ciarán was a very pleasant student, popular with schoolmates and staff. His death has left a huge void in the lives of his friends, classmates and indeed the whole school community. Hundreds of students, along with staff, visited the family home at Gaile, and on Tuesday last were among the vast gathering of mourners at Holycross Abbey for his funeral. The school choir sang and classmates formed a guard of honour. Mr. Eddie Morrissey, school principal, spoke of Ciarán’s time at Cashel Community School and described a young man who had endeared himself to all in Cashel C.S., where his memory will long linger and live. May he rest in peace.
