GOOD WIN FOR HURLERS

Ballygiblin Junior A hurlers had a 3-16 to 2-14 win over great rivals Ballyhooly in the opening round Avondhu JHC at Kilworth on Saturday evening. The game was close all through with the sides level 0-6 each at half time. In the second half scores flowed at both ends. Five goals three for Ballygiblin and two for Ballyhooly were the major scores. They were level at 2-14 each with five minutes to go. Danny Duggan had Ballygiblin’s third goal and two late points by impressive Joseph O’Sullivan gave Ballygiblin a five point win. Ballygiblin Minor hurlers had a 2-8 to 0-13 win over Croke Rovers in Ballygiblin on Tuesday evening. Croke Rovers started well and led 0-8 to 1-3 at half time. Ballygiblin did well in the second half and held out for a single point win.

THE LATE MARTIN COMBER

The death occurred on May 13 of Martin Comber, at his residence Glenahulla House, Mitchelstown. The late Martin was well known locally being a member of the farming community. His popularity was borne out in the large and represented attendance at the removal on Wednesday evening from Hannon’s Funeral Home, Doneraile, to the Church of the Immaculate Conception Ballindangan and also at the Requiem Mass and burial on Thursday. Interment took place to Kildorrery cemetery. To his wife Mary, son Michael, daughter Rosarii, daughter in law Zivile, grandsons Martynas, Marius, Saulius, and Mantas, brother Frank, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends we tender our sincere sympathy.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Boys and girls from CBS Mitchelstown and Presentation Convent will receive their First Holy Communion at 11am Mass this Saturday in Mitchelstown Parish Church.

BUS TO KNOCK

BUS TO MOUNT SION

AN POST RAS

Mitchelstown will host the finish of stage 5 in this year’s An Post Ras, on Thursday, May 23.

The cyclists are due to arrive in Mitchelstown after 2pm having travelled from Glengarriff. Traffic diversions in place from 2pm.

Disruption will be kept to the minimum as they will only be in place while the cyclists are coming through town and its outskirts. Finish line is in Upper Cork St. near the Post Office. Barriers will be erected in Upper Cork St from 11am. Parking will be available in the Mart premises Georges St. On Friday at 11am the cyclists will leave for Carlow via Skeheenarinky, Cahir and Cashel on Stage 6.
