A second one day conference examining Carrick-on-Suir’s economic future takes place in The Carraig Hotel on Friday, May 31.
The Economic Forum called “The Future of Our Town” is being organised by Carrick-on-Suir Tourism and Economic Development Committee in view of the success of its 2011 Economic Forum in Ormond Castle.
The one-day conference in 2011 examined how Carrick on Suir’s economy could fight back in the recession and it came up with a shopping list of ideas to revive the town’s fortunes.
The areas agreed at that Forum included how to sell and market the town, the renewal of the town centre and how to ensure a strong retail and business presence.
The 2011 Forum also resolved to develop initiatives in the food and tourism sectors and encourage start-up businesses to locate in the town.
The goal of this year’s event is to develop a strategy to help drive the economic development of Carrick-on-Suir with a particular focus on how the town would look like in 30 years time.
The conference will run from 10am to 4.30pm. Clonea born economist Jim Power will act as facilitator and there will be guest speakers followed by the opportunity to get involved and to contribute ideas.
Carnation Theatre will present “Music Hall” at Carrick on Suir Day Care Centre at 11am this Thursday, May 23 as part of the Bealtaine Festival.
