Cahir Youth Club is to be sponsored by The Big 1 Market and car boot sale, it announced last week.

Cahir Youth Club provides a safe, fun environment for the young people of Cahir and surrounding areas to come and be active and socialise. They run activities two nights a week, for youths aged eight to 12 years on a Tuesday and Wednesday night and they are located at their venue behind the VEC Centre on Church Street, Cahir.

Adrian Cooney, of The Big 1, made the decision to lend his financial support to the Youth Club to help support the local community. Youth Club Leader Sharon McGee said all involved with the club is very grateful for his support, through the market and for events they will hold for members during the year.

The Club have been provided with their own unit at The Big 1 where they plan to sell brick-a-brack. Sharon explained: “We’re getting the kids to bring in clothes or toys and we’ll have rota to staff the stand. Our members are going to come in and help sell stock and raise money for the club.”

The stall gives people an opportunity to pop into the unit any Sunday to support the Club. Sharon said the project will be about more than just fundraising: “It’s about youth partnership too. Hopefully it will also generate new volunteers and members.”

Why not sign up as a volunteer when you meet them at the Market or get your children to join their Club. The club currently has about 50 members. As well as the regular meetings they run groups like the Monday night dance group. These activities are only open to members.

The Club is currently recruiting volunteers. All they ask is an hour or two of your time every week. Volunteers are provided with child protection training and other training opportunities as they arise. It’s a great way to get involved in your community. If you are interested call Sharon 0867377791.
