Gaeltacht Scholarships 2012
Coiste Chontae Thiobraid Árann is offering a limited number of Gaeltacht Scholarships to second level students in the county. These Scholarships are limited to those students currently in 2nd, 5th and Transition Years.
Closing date for applications is Wednesday, February 29.
Please note: Students who have already booked a place in a Gaeltacht College and the deposit paid cannot avail of this scheme. These scholarships are only available in three Munster Colleges: Coláistí Chorca Dhuibhne, Baile an Fheirtéaraigh, Trá Lí, Co Chiarraí. (2 Options); Coláiste Na Mumhan, Beal Athan Ghaorthaidh, Co. Chorcai (2 Options); Coláiste na Rinne, Co. Phort Lairge (1 Option)
Complete the application form and return to An Runaí, Coiste Chontae Thiobraid Árann, Lar Na Páirce, Durlas Éile Co. Tiobraid Árann before Wednesday, February 29. Please ensure the form is signed by your local GAA club secretary and your divisional board secretary as both units will be contributing towards the cost, if the scholarship is granted.
During early March suitable candidates will be called for interview and all applicants will receive a response by mid March.
Cullen-Lattin A team returned to league action in Clonmel last Sunday where they recorded a 4 – 0 victory over Clonmel Celtic B. The tam were one up at the break through Russell Bowes and further goals from Barry O’Dwyer, Alan Hayes and Shane Prenderville gave them an emphatic win, which keeps them in promotion contention. The team lined out as follows; Ger Ryan, P.J.O’Brien, Timmy Heffernan, John Donnelly, D.J. Lynch, John Russell, Davy Ryan, Barry O’Dwyer, Damian Lynch, Alan Hayes, Russell Bowes; Substitutes, Pat Power, Shane Prenderville and Gary Power. An under strength B team, which missed a penalty, lost by one goal to nil in Ballyneale. The youths team also lost away to Clonmel Town.
Congratulations to the U.12s and their management team of Mike Landers and Liam Ryan, which have won the County Division One title. The team have been unbeaten all year and deservedly captured the title with a 4 – 2 victory over Rathkeale.
Next Saturday the U.10s are away to Donohill and the U.14s entertain Meanus in a cup game at 12.30 pm. On Sunday the Junior A team are at home to Killenaule Rovers and the U.13s are in cup action against Kilmallock at 3 pm in Cullen.
Anyone interested in joining the Ladies Fitness group should come along to Cullen soccer club on Monday nights from 8pm to 9pm for some walking/jogging and exercises.
SCRAP METAL COLLECTION:
In order to raise funds for the extension and renovation of Nicker National School, Pallasgreen the parents will be collecting scrap metal at Pallasgreen Community Centre yard on Saturday, March 10, between 9am and 3pm. All unwanted scrap metal would be very welcome. A collection service from your premises is available for large items by phone or text to Timmy Murphy (087-6166874), Tracy Hourigan (086-8718028), Anne Delaney (086-1503519) or John O’ Dwyer (087-6892272). Please do NOT bring: empty food cans, gas bottles of any type, fridges, televisions, household rubbish, timber, ceramics, rubber, tyres. U10 and U12 draughts continues on Tuesdays from 7pm to 8pm and county final will take place in Lattin at 6pm on Sunday, February 26. Art and model making local area final starts at 5pm on Thursday, February 23. County final of U14 quiz takes place in Thurles at 7pm on Friday, March 2. County final of talent (singing, disco dancing, recitation and music) competition will be held in Dunkerrin at 3pm on Sunday, March 4. Parents of children interested in participating in talent or quiz should contact Paul Carew on 086 8187668. Our U13 boys and girls indoor soccer teams played in the south Tipp finals last Sunday. The boys had a great win over Powerstown in the semi final and were unlucky to lose the final to Moycarkey Borris. The players on the boys team are Connie O’ Halloran, Danny Cunningham, Ben Quinn, Michael Sean Nash, Liam Ryan, Niall Carew, Jack Cunningham and Arthur Moore. The girls won their final, beating Moycarkey Borris. The players on the girls team are Katie Cunningham, Maria Nash, Bernadette Leahy, Aoife O’ Halloran, Laoise Looby and Megan O’ Neill. The girls will play in the county final in Templemore on Saturday March 3rd.
