Wednesday, February 22, is Ash Wednesday a day of fast and abstinence for all persons over 18 and under 60. Ashes will be blessed and distributed at both morning and evening masses on this day. Because of the Ashes ceremony the weekly novena is cancelled. During Lent people are invited to make a special effort to attend daily Mass. A cead mile failte is extended to parishioners of Galbally and Aherlow and surrounding areas. The practice of giving to the poor of the Third World is an ideal opportunity to help people less well off than ourselves. Trocaire Boxes are now available for this purpose.

Following the retirements of long standing officers in Galbally community council new directions were signed in at the recently held annual general meeting. The outgoing officers gave detailed reports on the day to day activities and the financial status of the council. It is expected that the valuable experience of these officers will be of great benefit to the newly elected committee, which will take place this coming week. Certainly there will be many new projects to the worked upon by this new committee and we wish them well in their endeavours. We thank most sincerely the endless long hours by the past committee in developing Galbally over the past 30 years.
