It is with sad regret we accord the death of Mrs Kathy Sloane (nee Walsh), Croan, Newcastle which occurred in St Theresa’s Hospital, Clogheen on Friday 20th April last. Wife of the late Paddy, Kathy had celebrated her 101 years very recently. She attributed her long and healthy life to working outdoors on her farm at Bahernaugh. Last year on her 100th birthday she received a letter of congratulations from the former president Mary McAleese. Needless to say this letter took pride of place in her home. Of an outgoing disposition she was always in the best of spirits, who loved music and dancing. A very popular lady she was well known far and wide, and will be sorely missed by her nephews and their families who looked after her so well in the past years. On Saturday evening her remains were removed from St Theresa’s Hospital Clogheen to Newcastle Church where they were received and blessed by Fr Gareth Desmond P.P. Following requiem Mass on Sunday celebrated by Fr Desmond burial took place in the adjoining cemetery, where all walks of life were represented in the huge concourse of mourners. Our sympathy to her nephews, their families, neighbours and friends on the death of a gentle soul.
