Oola 4-6, St. Nessans 0-2.
Oola got their first round Championship match off to a winning start with a good win over St. Nessan’s in Oola on Tuesday evening last. It was not an ideal evening for good football with heavy rain and very slippery under foot conditions. St. Nessan’s were first of the mark with a point in the first minute but this was cancelled out when Darrahg O’Donovan scored from play for Oola. Both teams were finding it difficult to create scoring chances and we had to wait until the 17th minute for Dean Coleman to extent Oola’s lead with a well taken point. With Darragh Stapleton and Richie English supplying plenty of ball to the Oola forward line it was only a matter of time until Oola added to their tally. Two points from frees by Kevin Heuston and a point from play by Darragh O’Donovan gave Oola 0-5 to 0-1 lead after 24 minutes of play. A vital score for Oola came in the 26th minute when Pat Ryan finished to the St. Nessan’s net to give Oola 1-5 to 0-1 half time lead. In the second half Oola added further goals from Kevin Heuston(2) Richie English (1) and a point from a free by Kevin Heuston.
This was a very good team performance with players supporting and working hard for each other.
