People danced and enjoyed themselves in the Clonmel Park Hotel recently with great music, good company and spot prizes galore at the annual Marlfield village dance.
District Mayor Martin Lonergan presented the winning prizes for the garden competition, with the best overall award going to the Clarke family, 25 Mountain View, who received the Wallace Trophy.
The best containers and pots award went to the O’Donnell family, 33 Mountain View, with the best small garden prize going to Mary Collins, 7 Salisbury.
The best large garden award went to Fitzgeralds, Pond Side, who were awarded the O’Connell Crystal Trophy. The continuing high standard was praised, as the effort and cost invested in the lovely gardens gives pleasure to many.
The contractors have been busy laying a new road surface in Mountain View Estate. This is very welcome as the road surface, laid almost 40 years ago, was in a poor state due to the ravages of time. It’s hoped that the budget will also include repairs to the footpaths, which have been damaged by vehicles in many areas. The erection of a stop sign and road realignment at the cross is also on the schedule of works and once completed with the road lining and speed warning signs will put a structure on the village’s traffic management.
The community of Marlfield Village extends its sympathy to the Doyle family on the death in Chicago of Gary Doyle, formerly of Pearse Park, Clonmel and brother of Fergus, Alice and family.
