Great events at Ballygiblin ‘Gathering’

There were large attendances at events organised by Ballygiblin School, Parents Association and GAA club at the weekend near Mitchelstown.

There were large attendances at events organised by Ballygiblin School, Parents Association and GAA club at the weekend near Mitchelstown.

On Friday night there was capacity attendance in Ballygiblin Old School for Mass. Fr Joe O’Brien (England) a former Ballygiblin student was the chief celebrant along with Fr Michael Fitzgerald PP, Fr James Greene CC, Fr Patrick Cahill and retired PP Canon John Terry. Retired school principals Jack Clancy and Nora Aherne along with retired teacher Gretta Lee attended.

After Mass the Ballygiblin Flagolet Band of 50 years ago played. Jack Clancy performed the official opening of the new school extension.

On Saturday many attended the school where roll books and photos were all examined. Juvenile hurling games were played in the nearby pitch. On Saturday there was a social evening in the Firgrove Hotel. Members of the 1963 hurling team that won the Novice Hurling championship were presented with a scroll by Munster Vice Chairman Jerry O’Sullivan. Members present were Johnny Barry (Capt) Paddy Tobin, John Aherne, Mick Reidy, John O’Connor, Eddie Barry, Jimmy Murphy, Jimmy Moher, Davy Casey, John Walsh, Jerry O’ Keeffe, & Tommy Norris. The 1993 team that won the Co Junior B hurling title were also made a presentation by Board Chairman John O’Donnell. Those from the side present included Declan Power (Capt) Mossie Roche, Jackie Slattery, Jim Kenneally, Damian Cremins, Diarmuid Lynch, Dave Moher, Declan Moher, Seamus Fox and Kevin Casey.
