Cahir News in brief...



The Fair of Cahir was brought to you for the second year running by The Promoting Cahir Group. Committee members were Chairman, Patrick O’Donovan, Treasurer, Henry Reidy, Secretary, Brian Dolan, Music Director, Jason Maher and Event Manager, Maria Taylor.

The chairman addressed the crowd on the final night and thanked the Fair Committee, especially Maria Taylor on a great job done, Gerry Duffy for his witty on stage banter, Murty Cashman for his assistance, Rob and Paul from Altec Sound System, all the local traders who sponsored events or made donations towards the costs, as this means that the Fair can continue every year to provide a weekend of free entertainment for the residents of Cahir who continue to support their local traders.

Pat also thanked An Garda Siochana for their assistance and presence over the weekend, The Clonmel Red Cross team for their fantastic cover of the Fair, John and the lads of Cahir River Search & Rescue without whom the Boat Race could not take place, the kayakers on the river, lifeguards, Áine and Lucas, the County Council, Rory and all the lads for their invaluable help before the Fair and clean up after. The Cahir Youth Club for hosting the children’s event in Inch Field, Maureen Calvert, Brenda Burke and Hilery of The Volunteer Centre .

Community Hall Fundraiser

The Fair of Cahir 2013 included a Cake Sale and Bric a Brac sale in the Community Hall in aid of the debt for the restoration of the Hall and roof repairs to the church. Thanks are given to the community who gave generously to the sale and to the customers for a wonderful response. Not forgetting the fantastic helpers behind the tables. Already the proceeds are over €1,800 and this may well reach €2,000. The charity shops in Cahir and Clonmel also received support through this sale.

Ballingeary ICA

The next meeting of Ballingeary ICA Guild takes place today, Wednesday, September 4, 8pm, Ballingeary school house. Grainne Ryan from MABS will be guest speaker. Hostesses Peggy O’Brien, Peggy Kelly, Sheila Allen, Anne O’Neill, Hillery Tarrant.
