Preparations are being finalised for the merger of ‘The Two Tipperarys’ in 2014.

As we get set to bid farewell TO Tipperary’s two ridings, Dr Matthew Potter, University of Limerick recounts the story of ‘Eight centuries of Local Government in County Tipperary’ in The Source, Cathedral Street, Thurles on Tuesday, November 19 at 7.30pm.

Initially introduced to Ireland by the Normans, the November lecture in the Tipperary People and Places series is a very timely account of 800 years of local government in our county. Matthew describes its development through such institutions as Grand Juries, Municipal Corporations, Board of Guardians and County Councils.

Lesser known aspects such as the liberty of the Butlers and the County of Cross Tipperary are also included.

So join us in The Source, Thurles on Tuesday 19th November for another exciting instalment in the history of the premier county.

All are welcome. Admission is free. For further details contact (0504) 29278;
