Brewery Lane plays

Two plays by George Bernard Shaw and Woody Allen will be staged at Brewery Lane in November.

Rehearsals for the double bill of one-act plays “The Shewing up of Blanco Posnet” by Shaw and “Riverside Drive” by Woody Allen are now in full swing.

The plays will be staged for eight nights from Saturday, November 12 to Saturday, November 19.

Cast of the George Bernard Shaw play, directed by Colm Power, is Barry Comerford, Liam Butler, Walter Dunphy, Denis Barry, Julie Anne Denby, Sarah Power, Claire O’ Regan, Declan Robinson, Kevin Power, Tom Nealon, Maria Clancy, Paula O Dwyer, Jenny Hogan, Clare O’Sullivan, Jim English.

The cast of the Woody Allen play comprises David Grant, Enda O’Driscoll and Clare O’ Sullivan. The director is David Grant.

Music and Irish lessons

The Nano Nagle Community Resource Centre at Greenside, Carrick-on-Suir is taking names for music lessons for banjo, tin whistle, basic guitar and also a course in basic Irish.

Nineteen tables competed in the table quiz run by St. Colman’s Youth Conference of St. Vincent de Paul in the Carraig Hotel.

The Weakest Links team won the quiz and the Youth Conference members thank all the event’s sponsors and the teams who contributed to the success of the quiz.

Active Retirement Club

The fortnightly meeting of Carrick-on-Suir Retirement Club takes place this Thursday, October 27 in the Nano Nagle Community Resource Centre from 2pm to 4pm.

All in that category are welcome to come along and enjoy dancing, singing, tai chi, pleasant company and a cup of tea.

There were 46 members at the last meeting enjoying the craic and the group will travel to New Ross on Sunday, November 6 for an afternoon tea dance. Members planning to travel are asked to bring money for the trip on Thursday.

Names for the holiday break in Killarney should be handed in as soon as possible.

Cancer Society says thanks

The Irish Cancer Society thanks all who helped and contributed at its recent annual church gate collection in St Nicholas Parish.

The total amount collected was €764.

Art Supple at Mansfield’s of Mothel

Art Supple playing in Mansfield’s Lounge, Mothel, Friday 28th Oct.

Art Supple and his band return to Mansfield’s Lounge in Mothel near Carrick-on-Suir this Friday, October 28 from 9.30pm until late.

There is a great door prize on offer and a raffle with plenty of spot prizes.

The event is in aid of the Carrick-on-Suir branch of Chernobyl Children International.

Each year children come from Belarus to Ireland to spend a month in a healthy environment with local families. Please come along and support this great cause on what promises to be a brilliant night.
