BURNCOURT FESTIVAL

BURNCOURT FESTIVAL

Though the sun failed to shine for last Sunday’s Gala Day as the final day of Burncourt’s Community Council’s Annual Festival, with a great turnout, it proved to be a great family day with lots of children’s activities, all free. The Children’s matches and sports proved a big hit with medals galore. The children’s play area was busy all afternoon with Geraldine and her team providing plenty of fun for the little ones. Likewise the Bouncing Castle and Obstacle Course were very popular and the creative face painting by Rose, Alice and Chris was in great demand. Konor the Clown was as always highly entertaining, making sure that it was indeed a great family day.

Jimmy and Carmel at the barbecue and Margaret, Bridget, Maureen and Bernie at the tea stall worked hard all afternoon to ensure that no one went home hungry.

On Friday night the local actors took to the stage and with their two sketches had us all in stitches. This local group is really going from strength to strength and we will definitely be seeing more challenging work from them in the future.

Well done to all who in good spirits stepped up to the tasks for “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me out of Here”, with the South West emerging as winners.

A great effort was made by the five teams who took part in the Fancy Dress on Saturday night with very topical themes being aired such as “Changes in Rural Ireland”,”The Olympics”, “Bruce Springsteen”,”The Banks ,Wanted Dead or Alive” and an excellent presentation from the North West, winners on the night of “The Eucharistic Congress Comes to Burncourt”

The overall winners of the “Battle of the Parish” were the team from the South West. A particular word of thanks to the young people who took part. Well done to all concerned.

As people are aware funds raised by the Festival are presently being used to pay off the debt on the new floor in the Community Hall. Though numbers overall were down on previous years, a big thank you to all who supported the work of the Community Council.

Burncourt community Council would like to thank its generous sponsors - Paul Mulcahy, Kilcoran Leisure Centre, Supermacs, Mitchelstown, Kilcoran Lodge Hotel, Hodgins’ Sausages,Paul Curtin, Dodo and Willie Mulcahy, Maureen Creed, Michael and Marion Butler, South Tipperary Rural Arts Group.

Skeheenarinky Flower Show Social evening will take place on August 4 at Jacksons (9.30pm) and promises to be a fun-filled evening.  Music by John Geary.  Admission is only €5 and a good crowd is expected.

Skeheenarinky Flower Show Entry Forms
Entry forms are still available at Kilbehenny post office or directly from Doug at 086-8051564. There’s something to suit everyone at this year’s show and there’s great fun in participating.  If you haven’t already picked up an entry form, do it now as the forms have to be returned by August 4 so that details can be entered on the  professional computerised system that has been put in place in recent years by Flower Show vice-chairman, Declan Duggan.  Remember that the ‘entry forms’ only have to be in by that date and not the entries!  So fill in your forms and get them back to a committee member by August 4. The show itself is on the following Saturday, August 11.
