The annual Mass at the Holy Year Cross overlooking Clonmel will be celebrated as usual on the August Bank Holiday Monday at 11am.
The Cross was erected 62 years ago at Cnoc a Chomortais, or Scrouthea Hill, on the foothills of the Comeraghs, and ever since the tradition of Mass on the August Bank Holiday has endured.
The Mass is attended by the Mayor, or Deputy Mayor, and members of Clonmel Borough Council, as well as hundreds from the town and surrounding area who faithfully make the annual pilgrimage.
As well as the celebration of the Mass it’s a day out for all the family and an occasion enjoyed by young and old alike.
The organisers have been working hard to prepare the area for next Monday and are hoping that one of the Old Bridge’s and Clonmel’s major community gatherings of the year will be blessed with fine weather.
