From everyone involved in Tigh na nDaoine, we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year. Thank you to all who helped us and supported us throughout the year and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2013.

The news of the death of the very Rev Fr Ned Tobin was received in the parish with great sadness. He was Parish Priest of Newcastle/ Fourmilewater for 15 years prior to his retirement 6 years ago. Even though he was in failing health for some years his immediate death was unexpected. He was a native of Ballylooby and served in many parishes before his appointment to the parish of Newcastle/Fourmilewater. A pleasant, gentle, good humoured and witty man he was well respected by the parishioners. Among his achievements together with the aid of Rev Fr Jim Denmead was the launching of the Parish Council. Many parishioners attended his requiem Mass in St Kiernan’s Church Ballylooby, on Sunday and following Mass he was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. We offer our sympathies to his bereaved relatives.

There was a full house for the Annual Concert in the community Hall on Saturday. All the dancers, singers and musicians gave of their best on the night and congrats to Kathy McGrath for her efforts in preparing the dancers.

Millie Lonergan and her parents Mary and Graham would like to say thank you to family, friends and neighbours, to all who helped with fundraising and those who got waxed, shaved or all of the above! Millie is now over her operation in Leicester Royal University Hospital and we are delighted to say it was a huge success and she is recovering well at home. The support we received was overwhelming and will never be forgotten, thank you all so much, it certainly made our journey a lot easier and we will be forever grateful.
