GALTEE HARRIERS’ DRAG-RACE
Galtee Harriers held a drag race for the Ruth Gorey Cup on Sunday, February 24. It was well attended with 21 horses and ponies taking part.
The race started at the bottom of Gurteen wood and then came cross-country down to the ‘Rock’ where many spectators had gathered for a spectacular view on a beautiful day.
The horses gathered speed after crossing the road and then it was flat out to the finish with Roger Geary first passed the post.
John Reidy was a close second and Kevin Casey came third.
Well done to all! The cup will be presented at the Galtee Harriers social night which is coming on March 9.
CONDOLENCES - DAVE HYLAND R.I.P.
The many friends of Dave Hyland of Carrigmore were greatly saddened at the news of his recent passing. Dave was a fine gentleman and will be greatly missed.
To his family and extended family we extend sincere sympathy on behalf of this community.
Oisín Brennan (Capt.), Darragh Brennan, Jack Murphy, Vincent Fitzgibbon, Dean Finn, Ricky Morrissey, and Joey Connolly are all local members of Burncourt Celtic and were on the team that won the Tipperary Young Schoolboys’ Under 12 B League recently.
The team will soon be presented with a cup and we trust that Oisín has his speech ready! Congratulations to all the team members and to the club!
LAMBS AND DOGS
It is a good time to remind all dog owners to keep their dogs secure and locked up at night. Lambing time will be here soon and has already started in some areas.
All dogs - whether pets or working dogs – will run and hunt with a pack and can inflict terrible damage on ewes and lambs.
