It may be winter lethargy, but so far, according to Cashel’s St. Patrick’s Parade Chairman, there hasn’t been a great response for the call out for entrants to the parade which will be held on Sunday, March 17.
You can get a form by texting the words ‘St. Pats Form’ with your name to 08798216, and they are also available to pick up form the Heritage Centre.
John O’Byrne, Parade Chairman, told The Nationalist that it is important that as many entrants as possible send in their details this week as the insurance for the parade has to be paid in the first week of March.
“We don’t have an entry fee, unlike many other parades in the country, but we still have to submit a running order to make sure we can insure all of the entrants and the crowd as well,” he explained
John also told us that the fundraising table quiz which had been scheduled for this coming week has unfortunately had to be postponed.
“We have had a few illnesses amongst the committee and they won’t be fit to attend on Thursday. Also on the same night there is the Gathering launch at Bru Boru which we will be sending a representative to, and of course many of our loyal supporters will be there also, so to avoid a clash of interest we will be shifting our fun social night later in the year.”
John has also called for as many volunteers as possible to help out on the day of the Parade.
“It’s great fun and you get a yellow hi-viz vest! Seriously, we need a crew of around 12 volunteers to make sure everything goes off safely and smoothly.
“It’s a big issue every year, without volunteers, all our fund raising and all the efforts of the entrants and all support we get from the public over the year would come to nothing.”
You can become a volunteer by calling the Parade secretary Sean Laffey on 06262685”.
