Less than four weeks left to our festival. We have a huge line up this year with something for everybody, all we need is the good weather!

Congrats to Catherine Kiely, Cappawhite and Emma Compton, Donaskeigh, two more lovely ladies in our queen competition. Toohy’s bar, Golden, will play host to our queens for their official interviews on Friday, May 31, from 8pm. Music and finger food for all on the night. Call in and enjoy good music song and craic and of course meet all our queens.

The Cornerstone bar, Golden, will hold a very novel “go kart “race on Sunday, June 2, at 8pm outside the pub. Contact The Cornerstone for more info on this brilliant event or follow them on Facebook.

The Bridge House Bar will play host to The Gatherin’s ‘40 year reunion’ of Golden, Cashel and Arravale Rovers hurlers on Saturday, June 1, directly after the much awaited “festival on the island.” Music and finger food for all on the night. Both of these events are free. Raffle on the island for a weekend away and a huge hamper, tickets just €2.

As part of The Gathering Ireland we are holding a “heritage walk of Golden village” on Saturday, June 1, at 11.30am, starting at the Bridge House and ending at the GAA festival hall. This walk will take one hour and will take in all aspects of the village.

Local historian Carmel O’Donnell will kindly lead this walk and everyone is invited to join her. This is a free event more info from 0872196413.

Don’t forget our hugely popular “sports and family” day on Sunday, June 2, in the GAA grounds. Timber auction, interview of queens, big line up of side shows, dog show, cake sale and teas run by tidy village committee, bottle bank, bric a braic, jewellery, kiddies races, an u10 blitz and bouncy castles run by juvenile GAA.
