270 take part in River Suir swim

In sweltering heat more than 270 brave men and women battled it out in the warm waters of the river Suir, in Carrick on Suir, last Sunday, as part of the Europcar Sprint Triathlon 2013.

In sweltering heat more than 270 brave men and women battled it out in the warm waters of the river Suir, in Carrick on Suir, last Sunday, as part of the Europcar Sprint Triathlon 2013.

With the sunshine and festive atmosphere a huge crowd of spectators were treated to a great day of sporting prowess.

Organisers would like to thank the local Gardai, Red Cross, River Rescue, Bonmahon Lifeguards, Davin and Swan GAA Clubs and the Veterinary Clinic at Sean Healy Park for their support.

There was a focus on local charity too, as a cheque for €2,130 was handed over to the South Tipperary Hospice from the Barry McCarthy Charity Swims.

First male overall was Bjorn Ludick; first in the team event were Patrick Quinn, Ennis, and Darren Dunne, Nenagh. Junior winner was Ernest Lopez from Spain.

First female was Niamh Richardson of Kilkenny, followed by Claire Devitt Tipperary Triathlon Club, Natalie Shaw Hamilton Tried /Tested Dungarvan. First in the relay were RMD Waterford.
