The Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport has allocated €35,000 in funding to carry out repairs to Carrick-on-Suir’s Old Bridge.
The repairs will entail scouring out old mortar particularly under the bridge where it has been damaged by heavy flooding and replacing this with appropriate material.
Carrick-on-Suir Town Council was notified of the grant last week but a date for commencing the works has not been decided yet. Carrick-on-Suir based Labour Senator Denis Landy has welcomed the allocation.
The Old Bridge was a significant part of the town’s heritage and he was very pleased these essential repairs will be carried out, he said.
