Many people find the erection of the Solar System Wind turbines on the hill known as Ring Hill northeast of Carhue and Glenough fascinating, others perhaps, consider them a blight on the horizon. Whichever way we see them, we hope they are there for a purpose of progress. Amazing how many people “stand and gaze” even stop their cars; as they can be seen for miles around, looking like sentinels with arms outstretched or dripping down, they look a pretty sight against the skyline.

Much attention is being drawn nowadays to the lack of care by farmers and others to prevent accidents on the farm. Official reports tell us that 2010 was the worst year in recorded accounts when 26 people lost their lives and approximately 1500 were injured on Irish farms compared with 11 farm deaths in 2009. Farming accounted for over 50% of work related fatalities reported to the Health and Safety Authority in 2010. It is vital to give safety the attention it deserves at all times.
