Well done to Kitty Burke, Ann Cummins and Nuala O’Mahoney for all the time and effort they have put in around the village over the last number of weeks. Weeding, watering, grass cutting, painting they never stop.

All the flowers in the hanging baskets and boxes were grown from seed this year and anyone who ever did this knows how tedious this can be.

Last Wednesday, July 13, one of the most beautiful days we’ve had this summer several people were admiring the beautiful flowers boxes in Mount Carmel when a number of young people were seen pulling plants from the boxes. This is so disheartening for the people who try so hard, spend money that they probably don’t have on flowers to enhance their homes and gardens just to have a few mindless, brazen teenagers destroy what they have worked so hard on. Although this may seem to some as harmless however as parents we have the responsibility to ensure that our children have respect for themselves and others and that they cannot destroy property whatever it is. We as a community have a collective responsibility towards the fantastic work of all our volunteers. They do the work that others would not get up off their sofas and do so if you see this type of blatant vandalism taking place stand up and be counted and confront these kids and their parents. Together everyone will achieve more and it will let them know that we will not tolerate this anymore.

As the summer holidays are here the Community Hall is available for Birthday Parties during the week days.

Ardfinnan Community Council made a presentation last Thursday night to Michael O’Brien, St, Finnans, in appreciation for nearly 40 years of service to our community as correspondent in Ardfinnan. A lovely night was had with five generations of Michael’s family in attendance along with other members of his extended family, friends and neighbours. Stefan Grace provided the entertainment and there was dancing and story telling galore in the hall over tea and Helen’s creamy buns. We would again like to wish Michael the very best for the future and look forward to hearing many of his wonderful stories over cups of tea. Thank you to everyone who attended and to Michael Heverin of the Nationalist and Anthony O’Halloran for their speeches on the night.
