Sean Kelly Sports Centre instructor receives University of Limerick volunteering award

Sean Kelly Sports Centre life saving instructor Fiona Malone has received a top award at tthe University of Limerick for her voluntary work in water safety.

Sean Kelly Sports Centre life saving instructor Fiona Malone has received a top award at tthe University of Limerick for her voluntary work in water safety.

The third year Biomedical Engineering student at UL was awarded the college’s President’s Volunteer Gold Award for her voluntary commitment in the last academic year.

Fiona was involved with the Water Safety group in the Sean Kelly Swimming and Sports Centre as an Instructor with Peter McCarthy for many years until she advanced to University of Limerick.

When possible she continues to teach lifesaving at weekends in the Sean Kelly Sports Centre but she is also involved in teaching lifesaving in the 50 metres pool at UL.

The University of Limerick’s annual President’s Volunteer Award honours students representing all academic departments for their volunteering commitment to their communities.

Fiona is daughter of Jim and Frances Malone, Piltown.
