Due to adverse weather conditions the U/21 Football game due to played on Sunday had to be called off and they are likely to be in action next weekend. Hard luck on the High School, who lost by the narrowest of margins to Dungarvan CBS in the Semi Final of Munster Colleges Hurling in atrocious conditions. They at least, deserved a draw only for some dubious decisions by the referee. The free tally was 25 to 10 against the High School. Kilsheelan were represented by Bill and Paul Maher, Eoin Kehoe, Tadgh Lonergan, Adrian McGuire who started and Kevin Guiry and Colin Gleeson who were part of the panel.
The U/12’s set out on the road again, this time to Ballyporeen. The weather held, meaning the pitch was not as soft as in recent matches. Against a Division 1 team (we are in Div 2), on a very long pitch, it was always going to be a hard game. Kilsheelan got off to a great start with a couple of early goals. Playing with the slight breeze in the first half, our players took advantage and seemed to have their shooting boots on, leading 8-4 to 2-3 at the break. The big pitch began to take its toll, and a lot of substitutions caused some confusion on both sides. Ballyporeen capitalised to score 2-3 without reply at the start of the second half. Kilsheelan’s substitute forwards then found their feet and hit back with 1-2 of their own. Another 2-1 from the home side finished out a thoroughly entertaining match. Many parents on the sideline commented on the skill levels from both sides.
Though Ballyporeen were missing a few players, and will no doubt be stronger with them, Kilsheelan came away with a win this time on a scoreline of 9-6 to 5-8. Their next outing will be a blitz in Clonmel, against Clonmel Og, Ardfinnan and either Cahir or Ballyporeen.
U/16 Football training has started and continues on Wednesday 15, between 6pm and 7pm on the Astro turf across from the GAA field.
As part of their preparations for the Cumann na mBunscoil hurling competition, Kilcash NS were invited to an indoor hurling blitz in Mullinahone. Kilcash firstly played Drangan. The surface was extremely slippy, and the Kilcash players struggled to come to terms with it. Drangan, having already played a match were more used to it. Kilcash found their feet in the second half, and in the end a draw was a fair result. In their second game, Kilcash played their near neighbours Grangemockler. In a match played in good spirits, Kilcash came away with a win. In their last game of the day, they played Mullinahone, who proved too strong for them.
All in all, great fun was had by all who participated. For Kilcash, Aaron Dempsey was in goal, with Billy Murphy and Jack O’Gorman in defence. Sean Martin and John O’Dwyer were in midfield, with Jack O’Loughlin and Emmet Butler providing the attack.

Sympathy is expressed to Brian and Mary Murphy, Bruach na hAbhainn, Kilsheelan village on the passing of Brian’s sister Gabrielle Quinn recently. Gabrielle spent the last number of years living in Parteen, Co. Clare but worked as a secondary school teacher in Gorey, Co. Wexford. A former pupil of the Loreto school, Clonmel, there are many in the locality who will remember Gabrielle with fondness. As Brian and Gabrielle’s dad was an Inspector Garda in Clonmel and also served as Chief Superintendent in Wexford, the family have ties in many different areas of the country. Sympathy too to Mary Jo Kehoe and family on the death of her mother Hannie Finn during the week. Hannie was one of the oldest residents in the parish as she was in her 94th year. May their souls rest in peace.
